Part-Time Customer Service Associate

Are you looking for a part-time job in a friendly, positive work environment? The Barrington Area Library is recruiting for a part-time Customer Service Associate to join our team. This position offers a variety of responsibilities in a busy and innovative library. 

About You:

Job Summary:
• Greet and assist customers at service points. Assist with material check-in and check-out. Process customer account transactions. Process library card applications. Facilitate materials searches.
• Promote library services and instruct customers in their use. Direct customers for additional assistance. Coordinate with other library staff as needed.
• Communicate with customers, on-site or remotely via the call center, using a variety of tools including multi-line phone, email, instant message, and text, to provide information and resolve inquiries.

Scheduling:
This is a year-round, part-time, hourly position. Weekly hours average 16-19 hours/week. Weekly schedules vary based on the needs of the department, but generally consist of 4 or 8 hour shifts between 8:45 AM - 9:15 PM, including 1-2 evenings per week, and 1-2 weekends per month. Flexibility in scheduling is required.

Pay & Benefits:
The starting pay rate is $17.74 per hour. Skills, experience, and internal equity will determine offer made. This position is eligible for the following benefits:

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED.
• Customer service experience preferred.

Part-Time Assistant Librarian - Youth Services

The Youth Services department is a lively, interactive environment – we even have a slide! - that encourages discovery and hands-on learning through play.

Job Summary:

  • Serve customers at in-person and virtual service points through reference, reader’s advisory, and basic technology assistance to children from birth-eighth grade and their caregivers.
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the department through various clerical tasks.
  • Assist with maintaining the children’s and teens' circulating collections.
  • Support Youth Services programming staff in preparing and presenting programs for children and their caregivers, including story times, craft programs, technology classes, and other assigned activities.
  • Actively promote Library services, materials, and programs to customers.
  • Demonstrate good stewardship of physical and virtual spaces by preparing and merchandising department displays, continually maintaining interactive areas, and producing and updating content for the Library’s web presence, as assigned.

Scheduling:

Part-time schedule is 20 - 24 hours per week. Includes day, evening, and rotating weekend and holiday shifts.

Salary and Benefits:

The starting pay rate is $20.94 per hour (DOQ). Skills, experience and internal equity will determine offer made. This position is eligible for the following benefits:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with children in a service setting preferred.
  • Collaboration and problem-solving with coworkers and customers.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and familiarity with other current technology.
  • Flexibility to be able to work rotating and various work shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
