Part-Time Youth Services Assistant Librarian

The Barrington Area Library seeks an organized, friendly, and customer-focused individual to complete our Youth Services team. The Youth Services Assistant Librarian provides reference and reader’s advisory to customers, assists professional staff with programs, and performs a variety of activities essential to the daily operation of the department.

About the Department:
The Youth Services department is responsible for selecting and recommending materials for children from birth-eighth grade and their caregivers, as well as shaping services, experiences, and spaces that inspire curiosity and create young readers. The Youth Services space is a lively, interactive environment – we even have a slide! – that encourages discovery and hands-on learning through play.

  • You’re comfortable relating to kids of all ages and their caregivers.

Requirements and Skills:
This position requires completion of a bachelor’s degree. The successful candidate will have: direct experience working with children; service-related work experience; and a demonstrated history of strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, digital literacy, and customer service skills.

Hours, Salary, and Benefits:
This position will be scheduled a minimum of 20 hours per week, including day, evening, and weekend shifts. Additional hours may be required on an as-needed basis. The salary is $20.87 per hour. This position includes participation in the IMRF retirement plan, and earns vacation, sick, and holiday benefits.

Part-Time Customer Service Associate

Do you thrive on providing excellent customer service? Do you enjoy finding the “yes” in situations? Then our Customer Service team is looking for you! The Barrington Area Library seeks a part-time Customer Service Associate to serve as the first point of contact at our service points, which may include some remote responsibilities. This means everything from greeting people with a smile as they enter our building to resolving account issues and helping users navigate Library resources. The Customer Service Department is responsible for facilitating customer account success and connecting users to resources across the Library.

About You:

  • You excel at listening to, understanding, and communicating with customers.
  • You are dedicated to providing quality customer service to Library visitors and staff.

  • You have experience with Microsoft Office suite and feel comfortable learning new software.

  • You enjoy learning new things and are energized by variety in your work day.

Hours, Salary, and Benefits:
This position will have a varied schedule between 20-28 hours per week, including day, evening, and weekend shifts. Flexibility with scheduling is required of all Customer Service staff.

The salary is $16.30 per hour. This position includes participation in IMRF’s retirement plan, and earns vacation, sick, and holiday benefits.
