Job Summary:

  • Perform tasks such as check-in, inspection, alphabetizing, shelving, and straightening of materials to ensure ready access of the collection on library shelves.
  • Maintain the appearance of public areas of library by collecting and re-shelving materials (at various heights) while using a push cart.
  • Ensure that the collection is correctly shelved by the Dewey Decimal System, by inspecting labels.
  • Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
  • Must be at least 16 year of age and able to pass shelving test.

Scheduling:
This is a year-round, part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. Scheduling is generally 12 hours per week, including a Saturday shift of 8:30 AM-12:30 PM, Sunday shift of 1 PM-5 PM, plus one weekday shift (afternoon or evening).

Pay & Benefits:
The starting pay rate is $14.00 per hour. This position is eligible for paid vacation, paid sick time, and bereavement pay.

Full-Time Youth Services Librarian

Are you looking for a job in a friendly, positive work environment? The Barrington Area Library is recruiting for a full-time Librarian to join our Youth Services team. The Youth Services department is a lively, interactive environment – we even have a slide! – that encourages discovery and hands-on learning through play. This position offers a variety of responsibilities in a busy and innovative library.

Job Summary:

  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate assigned services, projects, and programs, which may include preparing and training other staff to assist.
  • Select and maintain one or more children’s and teen’s collections in accordance with the Library’s Resource Selection Policy.
  • Initiate, plan, and present diverse and creative programs for children from birth-eighth grade and their caregivers, in support of department goals and community needs.
  • Serve children from birth-eighth grade and their caregivers through expert-level reference, reader’s advisory, and basic technology assistance at in-person and virtual service points.
  • Plan, promote, and provide outreach services for area schools, preschools, daycares, and community organizations.
  • Actively promote Library services, materials, and programs to customers.
  • Demonstrate good stewardship of physical and virtual spaces by preparing and merchandising department displays, continually maintaining interactive areas, and producing and updating content for the Library’s web presence, as assigned.

Scheduling:
Full-time schedule is 37.5 hours per week. Schedule is generally M-F with one weekday evening, and rotating Friday night and weekend hours. Must be flexible and able to rotate schedule to include day, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Salary and Benefits:
This is a full-time/37.5 hours per week, exempt (salaried) position. Starting pay range is $57,000 - $58,500 per year. Skills, experience, and internal equity will determine offer made within this range. In exchange for your time and talent, we offer a generous benefit package that includes:

Qualifications:

  • Master of Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.

  • Knowledge of collections for children birth-eighth grade.
  • Able to use computers, software, and other public library technologies.

Part-Time Custodian

      • You enjoy providing a high level of customer service to staff and customers.
      • You know or can readily learn and use standard building systems, equipment, and tools.
      • You have prior custodial experience (a plus but not required).
      • You are a high school graduate or equivalent.

Responsibilities:

      • Maintain a high level of cleanliness by performing general custodial tasks, cleaning, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, and other related tasks.
      • Complete set-up, take down, and moving of furniture for meetings and events.
      • Monitor the facility during work hours to assess safety, cleanliness, and supplies.
      • Perform grounds cleaning, snow removal, and salting.
      • Work independently in day-to-day operations with general direction from the supervisor.
      • Understand how to safely prepare, store, and use all chemicals.
      • Possess basic knowledge and skills to use internal software programs including Microsoft Office for email and documents.

Hours and Pay:
This is a part-time, non-exempt position. Scheduling is generally 15 hours per week (4-5 hour shifts). Pay range is $17.50 - $18.50 per hour. Skills, experience, and internal equity will determine offer made within this range.
