Material Services Outreach Associate

The Barrington Area Library is recruiting for a part-time Material Services Outreach Associate. We’re a busy and innovative library, and this position offers a variety of responsibilities. This key team player works with the Material Services Manager in fulfilling customer requests and delivering and retrieving items throughout our 72-square-mile library district.

About the Department:
Material Services is responsible for the movement and maintenance of physical Library collections. Material Services staff members shelve a variety of item types, troubleshoot and prepare hold requests, and pick up/deliver materials to and from remote locations. This department works efficiently to ensure a seamless experience for customers as they discover and receive Library materials.

About You:
➠ You are comfortable driving a large cargo van to deliver and retrieve materials.
➠ You have the ability to learn check-in procedures of materials.
➠ You enjoy responding to in-person customer inquiries.
➠ You have basic knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
➠ You enjoy the independence of directing your work day while en route.

Qualifications include a valid driver’s license, a high school diploma or equivalent, along with related work and a demonstrated history of strong communication skills, independent judgement, and positive customer service experiences.

The starting pay begins at $14.38 per hour. This position will average approximately 21 hours per week and will include weekday and rotating weekend hours. Typical shifts are 8:20 AM –2:30 PM or 11:30 AM – 5 PM. Flexibility in scheduling is required based on the needs of the department.
This position earns sick, vacation, personal, and paid holiday time. In addition, you will be a member of and contribute to the IMRF Pension plan.
