The Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce has announced its seven nominees for the 2014 Athena Leadership Award, which recognizes women who have exemplified excellence in their business or profession.

The nominees are Bonnie Conte, of the Avalon Salon & Day Spa; Marlene Frykman, of Aardvark Webworks; Karrie Gibson, of Vintage Tech Recyclers; Dee Dee Johnson, of Bataille Academie of the Danse; Eleanor Sweet McDonnell, of The Remington Group; Ellaine Sambo-Reyther, of BMO Harris Bank; and Jane Svensson Washburn, of Barrington Corporate Townhomes.

The winner will be named during an awards luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on May 29 at the Biltmore Country Club of North Barrington. To attend the event, make your reservations with the Barrington Chamber at (847) 381-2525. Tickets are $35 for Chamber members and $45 for nonmembers.

The Women's BizNet Committee of the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a luncheon, Mobilizing Women to Affect Change, on Thursday, April 24 at 11:30 a.m. at The Garlands of Barrington.

The Barrington Area Library will host "LinkedIn Networking and Marketing" for small business with Michael Yublosky from SCORE Chicago on Wednesday, April 23, 2014. Michael will show you the ten steps that you can take to build your  brand with the features and tools that LinkedIn offers. This program will take place at 7 pm at the Barrington Village Hall (200 S. Hough Street, Barrington, IL 60010). Parking is available in the lot on the west side of the Village Hall.

On Sunday, April 13, the Barrington Area Library hosted Keith Weber of Emvion Inc. to discuss starting a tech business in Chicago. With experience in various start-ups, robotics labs, grants for small businesses, and pitch competitions, Weber discussed how technology and business meet.
