William Joseph Thiess, Jr. was born April 15, 1914 in Chicago to William and Madeline Brann Thiess.

He was a 1935 graduate of Fenwick High School in Oak Park and attended four years of college.

Thiess served in the U.S. Army during World War II from February 21, 1941 until his honorable discharge as a Second Lieutenant on February 14, 1944.

On September 28, 1946, he married Gertrude M. “Trudy” Schomberg in Chicago; they raised seven children.

Professionally, Thiess was an accountant.

He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and Queen of Peace Knights of Columbus, both in Barrington.

2LT William Thiess died September 21, 1992 in Libertyville, and is buried with his wife in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
