John Meldal Swanson was born February 27, 1933 in Staten Island, New York, to Samuel and Johanna Meldal Swanson.
Swanson grew up in Eltingville on Staten Island. He joined the U.S. Air Force when he graduated from high school, and served during the Korean War.
On August 6, 1959, he married Elaine Van Gorder in Eltingville, NY; they raised three children.
Swanson made his profession in sales and sales management; his last position was a Sales Manager with Output Technology.
After the family moved to Barrington in 1971, Swanson became a member of American Legion Post #158 and the Lutheran Church of the Atonement. He enjoyed hunting and golfing.
Airman John Swanson died August 9, 1995 in Arlington Heights, and is buried in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
