Jack Walter Nightingale was born November 8, 1930 in Barrington to Walter and Deborah Geisert Nightingale.
After his 1949 graduation from Barrington High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On November 2, 1956, he married Joan Robertson in Barrington; they raised two children there.
He retired in 1993 from the Barrington Park District after more than 30 years of employment.
Nightingale was a member of the American Legion Post #158, the local chapter of the Masons, Barrington Lions Club, and Salem United Methodist Church. He was a 30-year member of the Barrington Volunteer Fire Department.
He enjoyed both high school and professional sports - as a member of the chain gang for BHS football games and as a Chicago Bears season ticketholder.
Veteran Jack Nightingale died December 4, 1996 in Barrington, and he is buried with his wife in Evergreen Cemetery.
