Robert August “Bob” Brandt, Jr. was born August 20, 1925 in Evanston, to Robert A. and Isabella Kuhn Brandt.
After graduating from Senn High School, Brandt enlisted in the U.S. Navy on September 16, 1943, where he served as a Photographer’s Mate Third Class during World War II. After his honorable discharge on May 17, 1946, he served for many years in the Naval Reserves, where he was instrumental in the acquisition, promotion and transportation of the U-505 German Submarine to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.
On July 18, 1956, he married Mary Schaefer in Cook County; they raised five children in the Barrington area.
Brandt owned and operated a photography business for 56 years.
He enjoyed many hobbies and passions, including flying, boating, trains, and farming. Brandt was a longtime member and Past Commander of Barrington American Legion Post 158, where he was active with the golf outings, American Legion baseball tournaments and high school scholarships.
PHOM3 Bob Brandt passed away peacefully November 28, 2012, and is buried with his wife in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
