Wallace Jay Stebbins Younger was born October 23, 1934, in Chicago, to Edward F. and Helen Stebbins Younger. He graduated from Harvard School for Boys in Chicago, and Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts, then attended Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN.
He served in the U.S. Army Security Agency during the Korean War from 1955-1958, and was stationed at Kagnew Station, Asmera Eritria, East Africa.
In 1961, Younger married Dora Jeanne “Zozo” Verbeke in Chicago; they raised three children in Barrington Hills.
Younger worked as CEO and Treasurer of Stebbins Hardware Company, in Chicago, the largest metropolitan hardware store in North America, and later as President of Stebbins Real Estate.
He was an avid sailor, a member of the U.S. Power Squadron, a member of Sports Car Club of America, and a licensed pilot and member of the Stearman Restorer's Association. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, collector, and restorer, and a member of the Harley Owners Group. He belonged to the American Quarter Horse Association, and started the Up & Down Cross Country Skiers of Barrington Hills.
Younger was also active in civic and charitable endeavors as a Scottish and York Rite Mason, and a Noble of the Medinah Temple Shriners. He was a supporter of Boy's and Girl's Clubs, and a life member of the Art Institute of Chicago. He was a member of the Planning Commission of Barrington Hills for six years and was influential in preserving their five-acre zoning.
After retiring, he regularly played tennis, golf, and bocce ball at his home in Ft. Myers, Florida, and regularly volunteered at the Henry Chapin Food Pantry there.
SP2 Stebbins Younger died on April 3, 2017 in Florida, of natural causes, and is buried in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
