Lawrence Jerome Cullen was born November 16, 1922 in Woburn, Massachusetts to Anthony and Mary Ellen Jones Cullen.
He enlisted for World War II service in the U.S. Navy in December 14, 1942 in Boston, and was assigned to the V-12 Navy College Training Program. He attended ROTC classes at Villanova, PA 1943-1944, and Northwestern University 1945-1946. The program trained hundreds of U.S. Navy and Marine Corps officer candidates while allowing them to earn college degrees. Cullen was honorably discharged from active duty as an Ensign on June 3, 1947. He served an additional six years in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
Cullen married Arlene Georgeas in 1949, and they raised two children in the northwest suburbs.
ENS Lawrence Cullen died in Cook County on October 10, 1987, and is buried with his wife in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
