George Robert Blanke was born July 14, 1930 in Cook County to John H. D. and Frances Munday Blanke.

Blanke graduated from Barrington High School in 1948, then entered the University of Illinois until he was drafted for military service during the Korean War. After serving 11 months in Korea, he returned to a Technical Illustrator role at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, creating detailed illustrations, graphics, and technical drawings used in operations manuals and maintenance guides for complex aircraft and equipment.

While in Florida, he met his future wife, Anita Burkhart, and they married on May 31, 1953 in St. Petersburg; they raised four children.

The couple returned to Illinois where Blanke completed his education at the University of Illinois in 1957 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He made his career with engineering firm Clark Dietz.

SSGT George Blanke died October 14, 2018, and is buried in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery with his parents.
