Pearle Outhwaite “P.O.” Nichols b. 12 Nov 1892 in Grove City, Ohio, to Alvin and Leonore Cruzen Nichols.

Nichols served in the U.S. Army during World War I in the 146th Ambulance Company of the 37th Division. He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class on April 12, 1919.

On June 12, 1923, he married Florence Carr in Athens, Ohio, where they raised two children and lived until 1983.

Nichols was Advertising Director for the Athens Messenger for 40 years, and also taught Advertising at Ohio University. He was a long-time member and leader of the Select List of Ohio Newspapermen and a member of American Legion Post 21 in Athens. In retirement, he was a state-wide bridge competitor in Ohio until 1983, when he and his wife moved to Barrington to live with their daughter.

PFC P.O. Nichols died May 18, 1987 in Barrington, and is buried with his wife in Evergreen Cemetery.
