Arthur Pierce Colby was born November 25, 1916 in Round Lake to Harold and Edna Pierce Colby.
In August, 1940, Colby was a contestant in the Illinois pilots’ air tour and efficiency flight contest. His aviation skills would have made him and attractive candidate for the Armed Forces during World War II, and he was drafted by the U.S. Army commencing August 4, 1944. He served as a Forward Observer in an Air Transport Command until March 21, 1946, when he was honorably discharged.
Colby’s professional pursuits are unknown. He married Maida Bauer about 1958, and they made their home in Green Oaks, in Lake County.
FO Art Colby died May 16, 1988, and is buried with his wife in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
