Arthur Tobias Arthofer was born November 11, 1908 in Riedlingsdorf, Austria, to Tobias and Maria Siermann Arthofer.

Arthofer Immigrated with his mother in February, 1924, and was naturalized on October 19, 1937.

He served in the U.S. Army from September 18, 1943 to November 25, 1944; he was honorably discharged as a Private.

On July 28, 1951, he married Aldona Stravin in Chicago; they raised two children in the northwest suburbs.

Arthofer was a lifelong lithographic artist, who specialized in dot etching.  In graphic art, a "dot etcher" refers to someone who manually adjusts the size and placement of dots in a halftone image to correct colors or improve the overall appearance of the image before it's printed. Dot etching was a crucial part of the printing process in the pre-digital era, as it allowed for the reproduction of images with a wide range of tones and colors on printing plates.  He was a member of Graphic Arts International Union, Local 245.

Private Arthur Arthofer died Aug 7, 1977 in McHenry, and is buried in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
