PVT John Schiller

Johann Schiller was born November 17, 1901 in Világos, Hungary [now Romania], according to his 1943 Naturalization Petition.
His parents were Jacob and Josephine Schmidt Schiller, who brought their family to Chicago in 1903.
In 1921, Shiller married Anna Steiner in Chicago; they raised one son.
He reported for his World War II assignment on November 7, 1942, and served in the U.S. Army 423rd Escort Guard Company until July 15, 1943. During the war, an "escort guard company" was a Military Police unit tasked with transporting and guarding prisoners of war to one of numerous POW camps, such as Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.
Schiller was a lifelong professional baker.
PVT John Schiller died January 12, 1965, and is buried at Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
