PVT Walter H. Hacker

Walter Henry Hacker was born September 1, 1916 in Arlington Heights, to Henry and Amelia Popp Hacker.
On January 25, 1941, he married Amy Cashau in Dubuque, Iowa; the marriage lasted four years.
Hacker entered military service on March 15, 1943, and served in the U.S. Army Co. D, Detachment 1808, Special Volunteer Program during WWII. The Special Volunteer Program accommodated approximately 25,000 men - mostly Conscientious Objectors or religious objectors - to serve in non-combat roles. Most of these men became medics, but some became chaplains or filled other support roles. Hacker was honorably discharged Feb 5, 1946 as a Private.
He was a punch press operator in Chicago prior to his death.
PVT Walter Hacker died May 7, 1969, and is buried with his mother in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
