John Edward Wenzel was born on August 15, 1921 in Michigan City, Indiana, to Alfred and Linda Lubka Wenzel.
Wenzel entered military service for World War II on August 31, 1942. He served in the U.S. Army’s Company B, 660th Engineers Topographical Battalion. a technical support unit providing surveying, drafting, and map production for the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant 5th Class on March 26, 1946.
On September 7, 1946, Wenzel married Virginia Mansfield in Michigan City, Indiana; they raised two children.
Professionally, he specialized in products for plumbing, HVAC, and industrial applications, and became the Sales Manager for the Dole Division of Eaton Products.
He belonged to the Community Church of Barrington, the Dole Management Club, and the Barrington Township Republican Club, where he performed the role of precinct captain.
TEC5 John Wenzel died at his Barrington home on March 14, 1973, and is buried with his wife in Evergreen Cemetery.
