George Dewey Nightingale was born February 20, 1899 in Barrington, to George W. and Mary Elizabeth Clarke Nightingale.
He served in World War I as a Private in the U.S. Marine Corps, from July 20, 1918 to August 11, 1919.
In 1925, Nightingale married Lillian Fisher; they had one child. He married, secondly, Esther Miller Kolle, on October 26, 1949.
Nightingale made a career in the retail grocery business, working as a stock boy, a counter clerk, and a butcher until retiring in 1964.
He was a lifelong resident of Barrington, a Past Master of Lounsbury Lodge #751 AF&AM, a Past High Priest Palatine Chapter #206 Royal Arch Masons, and a member of Barrington American Legion Post #158.
PVT Dewey Nightingale died on November 5, 1973 in Elgin, and is buried with his parents in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
