PFC Alvy R. Martin

Alva “Alvy” Regnal Martin was born July 10, 1898, in Hamilton County, Illinois, to James W. and Elmira Jane Cross Martin.
Martin enlisted for service in World War I on August 28, 1916, and was discharged November 7, 1919 as a Private First Class from the Medical Corps.
He married Clara Woods on November 1, 1922, near Fort Sill, Oklahoma; they had two children before her sudden death in 1929. He returned to Illinois and lived with his parents in Logan County between 1930 and 1935.
Martin married Lois Vederske on July 6, 1944, in Bloomington; they had one child, and lived in Bloomington, Arlington Heights, and Wauconda.
After relocating to the Chicago area, Martin worked as a laborer, janitor and landscaper.
PFC Alvy Martin died March 9, 1970 in Downey Veteran’s Hospital, and is buried at Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
