Donald Silver Harris was born August 8, 1899 in Everett, Massachusetts to Luther M. and Minnie Silver Harris.

He entered into service for World War I on October 9, 1918, and was honorably discharged as a Private on December 14, 1918. Harris graduated Phi Beta Kappa in with a degree in Journalism from the University of Washington in 1922, where he was a Sigma Delta Chi.

On April 8, 1924, he married his UW classmate, Minnie M. Nelson, in New York City; they had 2 children before divorcing in 1941.

On June 14, 1945, he married Hazel M. Rossland in Chicago; they raised one child.

Harris spent his whole career in advertising, working for some of the larger firms like McCann-Erickson, General Foods, and McGraw Hill in Minneapolis, New York City, and Chicago.

Private Donald Harris died on July 29, 1970 at his Barrington home, and is buried with his wife at Evergreen Cemetery.
