Arthur Herman Flesh was born February 18, 1897 in Chicago to Frank F. and Martha Rateike Flesch.

He enlisted for duty in World War I on August 3, 1918, and served in the 3rd Company 1 CAS Ordinance Battalion. This battalion was tasked with providing Close Air Support capabilities, trained and equipped to support ground forces with aerial fire support in close proximity to friendly troops. Flesch was honorably discharged as a Private on February 4, 1919.

He married Amelia Schwinn on April 6, 1918; they raised seven children.

Flesch was a professional Tool & Die maker, working in the trade his entire career, and retired from employment with Barco Manufacturing of Barrington in 1958.

He was active in the VFW Post #1337.

PVT Arthur Flesch died October 19, 1969 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin, Illinois. He rests with his wife in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
