John Christopher Becker was born July 31, 1894 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to John D. and Louisa Sigel Becker.

On June 26, 1918, he married Florence Burrell in Fort Dodge, Iowa; they raised three children.  

Becker was sworn in for service in World War II on July 30, 1918, and was assigned to Battalion A, 128th Engineers, which saw active duty in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class on July 21, 1919.

After the war, the family moved to Chicago, settling in Lake County by 1935.

Becker worked as a contractor in the construction industry - as a bricklayer and stone mason - until his retirement in 1964. He was a member of Brick Mason Local #20 and the Salem United Methodist Church.

PFC John Becker died September 17, 1972 in Elgin, and is buried with his wife in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
