AIC Samuel J. Upton

Samuel Jackson Upton was born in Barrington on June 24, 1930, to Roy and Irene Landwer Upton.
Upton graduated from Barrington High School in 1948, and attended North Central College.
He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1949 to 1951 in Rapid City, South Dakota, and was honorably discharged with a rank of Airman First Class.
On February 26, 1955, Upton married Edna Ezell of Thompsonville; they had two children.
Upton graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in Industrial Arts in 1955, and he taught the subject for a year. After moving to Naperville, he was employed first at Argonne Laboratory for eleven years and then at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory for thirty-six years until retiring in 2003.
Airman First Class “Jack” Upton, a long-time resident of Naperville, lost his battle with cancer on December 20, 2013. He is buried with his parents in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
