John Gregory Murphy was born July 5, 1890 in Chicago, to John C. and Anna Riordan Murphy.
Murphy served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War I, returning from Europe in August, 1945.
Professionally, Murphy was an investigator for the State Department of Public Safety, and later, a criminologist with the Illinois Academy of Criminology.
On June 14, 1958, Murphy, a longtime bachelor married Lynne Carnell (née Iverson); they raised her two children in Barrington.
CPL John Murphy died November 28, 1969 in Chicago, and is buried in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
