TSGT Michael G. Flamingo

Michael George Flamingo was born February 22, 1914 in Dodge County, Wisconsin, to Niklos and Rosa Pirozzole Flamingo.
Flamingo was raised in Waukesha; he was active in 4-H - a livestock farm hand from a young age.
He entered World War II military service in the U.S. Army on August 29, 1941. He earned a Bronze Star as Communications Chief with the Headquarters Battery 487th Anti-Aircraft Artillery (Automatic Weapons) Battalion, which saw action in New Guinea and Mindanao Island, Philippines. On January 3, 1946, Flamingo was honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant (this rank was reserved for skilled tradesmen who performed specialized jobs, later renamed Sergeant First Class).
On July 24, 1948, he married Edith Kusserow in Cary.
Flamingo was a herdsman, breeder, and supervisor at the Curtiss Candy Company dairy farm in Cary for many years, and a printer in the last years of his life.
TSGT Flamingo died on January 10, 1968 during heart surgery in Rochester, Minnesota. He is buried alongside his wife in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
