LaVerne Elton “Verne” Larkins was born in Momence, Illinois, on September 9, 1916 to Edward C. and Bessie Faurote Larkins.

On July 19, 1943, he entered into military service in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he served in Europe until 1946.

Larkins married Betty Jane Baker on March 20, 1942 in Wabash, Indiana. They raised two children.

For 25 years, he was employed by C.A.I. Recon Optical, a privately held defense contractor providing electro-optical and stabilization products.  

Larkins was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and also belonged to the  Palatine Lions Club.

Verne Larkins died in Hermitage, Tennessee, on November 1, 2000, and is buried with his wife in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
