LeRoy Henry “Bud” Harms was born in Evanston, Illinois on August 1, 1926, to Emil and Frieda Glauner Harms.
After graduation from Niles Township High School, Harms entered military service in the U.S. Navy on November 30, 1944. He served as an Electrician’s Mate on the USS Coronis, an Achelous-class repair ship, where he was responsible for the maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical systems and equipment on Navy ships. He was honorably discharged on May 1, 1946.
On September 8, 1950, Harms married LaVerne Mindock in Cook County; they raised two sons.
He became a prominent suburban businessman in the landscaping and nursery business, as a Vice President of Seidl Nursery in Buffalo Grove and as co-owner of D. Hill Nursery in Union.
Harms’ personal time was also spent outdoors as an avid golfer.
Electrician’s Mate Bud Harms died September 6, 2015, and is buried with his wife in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
