Vernon Paul Dorweiler was born August 12, 1931 in Guttenburg, Iowa, to John H. and Mary Eggerth Dorweiler.

Before he served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Sargeant First Class, Dorweiler married Mary Faith Hays in Des Moines on September 20, 1953; they had two children.

Dorweiler was a scientist, management and legal educator, and lawyer. He received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University in 1953, a Master’s Degree from Iowa State University in 1956, and a Ph.D. from Iowa State in 1959. 

In 1959, Dr. Dorweiler was employed as a Research and Technical-computing Supervisor by Amoco Oil Corporation (now BP) in Whiting, Indiana. In 1976, he earned an MBA from the University of Chicago while working as a Management Consultant with Amoco, and taught at Loyola University, Chicago, as an Adjunct Professor until 1980. He was Chairman of National Petroleum Refiners Association, from 1968 to 1984.

Dorweiler left Amoco in 1984, after earning a law degree from DePaul University and passing the Illinois Bar exam.  He was a member of the Chicago Bar, Illinois Bar, and American Bar Association.

He became a Professor at Michigan Technological University, Houghton, in 1985, publishing many academic research and position papers on subjects including corporate ownership, governance, and conduct, environmental education and accounting, and academic administration and teaching. Dorweiler was recognized as a reputable Management and Legal educator, and lawyer by Marquis Who's Who in 1994-1995. He enjoyed running and tennis.

SFC Vernon Dorweiler died December 20, 2008 in New Jersey, and is buried in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
