PFC Charles E. Loomis

Charles Edward Loomis was born August 13, 1916 in Pine Island, Minnesota to Albert and Bertha Hickey Loomis.

The family moved to Illinois when his father was reunited with his birth mother.

On December 1, 1945, he married Loretta V. McGrane; they raised three children.

Loomis enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 27, 1941 for service in World War II, primarily in the Pacific Theater. He served in Company C, 864th Anti-Aircraft Artillery, Automatic Weapon Battalion, Coast Artillery Corps, and was honorably discharged in the Autumn of 1945.

Loomis was a machinist by profession, and employed at the Frank G. Hough Company in Libertyville.

He was a charter member of the Barrington VFW Post 7706, and active in the Lake Zurich Little League program.

Private First Class Charles Loomis died August 6, 1962 at his home in Island Lake, and is buried with his brother and wife in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
