Lt. Col. Harold K. Richter

Harold Kenneth Richter was born July 19, 1926, in Chicago, IL to Harold and Gertrude Miller Richter.
An aviation enthusiast from his youth, he reported for active duty in the Army Air Corps in right after his high school graduation at North Park Academy, to serve in WWII. Richter remained in service for the Korean War as the Air Corps became the Air Force, then continued in the USAF Reserves until 1981, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Richter was twice married, with three children from the first marriage. He married his second wife, Sandra Taylor, in 1966, and they raised 2 children.
He earned an associate’s degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and joined the family printing business, Richter-McCall Company, where, in time, he became the company’s president. He later partnered with a friend to continue his printing career at Data-Com-Graphics, where he worked until 2014.
He was active in VFW Post 7706, and he served as its chaplain for 11 years.
Lt. Col. Harold Richter passed away peacefully in Barrington on April 17, 2024, and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
