Robert J. Mitera

Robert John Mitera was born May 21,  1942 in Chicago, to Stanley W. and Marie Florek Mitera.

He graduated from Chicago’s Waller High School in 1959.

Mitera was a Naval Reservist, and activated for the U.S. Navy service during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Following World War II, reservists have been involuntarily ordered to active duty for military operations during the Korean War (1950-1953), the Berlin Crisis (1961-62), the Cuban Missile Crisis (1962), the Vietnam War (1968-1969), the Persian Gulf War (1990-91), and the intervention in Haiti (1994-1996)

Mitera married Carolyn Cottini; they raised two children in Hanover Park where they lived for 42 years.

Seaman Robert Mitera died on June 5, 2012 in Elk Grove, and is buried in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
