William Henry Barnett was born July 10, 1874 in Barrington to George and Martha Benalec Barnett.
Barnett was educated in Barrington Schools, then became an employee of the Chicago City Water Department, where he worked as an inspector for 45 years.
He married Bessie Dalrymple in 1910, and they lived in Chicago the rest of their lives; they had no children.
Too old for the draft, Barnett reported for duty in World War I as a member of the Illinois National Guard in June, 1916. He served as a Private in Co M, First Infantry for four months.
Private William Barnett died on August 15, 1957 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. He is buried with his parents in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
