Robert Howard “Bud” Van Wambeke was born September 18, 1918, in Elgin, to Arthur H. and Clara Larkin Van Wambeke.
He grew up in Elgin and graduated from Elgin High School in 1936.
Van Wambeke married Ruth Elna Bjornberg on March 28, 1942, in Barrington; they raised four children.
He served in World War II, entering the service of the U.S. Army on June 26, 1943, and discharged on January 8, 1946.
He followed his father into the profession of watch making by attending the Elgin Watch Company watchmaker’s college in Elgin, and then serving as an instructor there. By 1950, he and his family were living in Barrington, where he was a watchmaker and jeweler until 1982.
Robert H. Van Wambeke died June 12, 1985, in Barrington, and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery with his wife.
