PFC Walter F. Mummert

Walter Franklin Mummert was born in Palatine on February 15, 1887 to Mary Sophia Thies (adopted by her husband, Wilson A. Mummert, whom she married in 1895).

Mummert joined the U.S. Army in in World War I on June 1, 1917, and served in Battery E, 119th Field Artillery. This Regiment was in combat for five months, supporting seven American infantry divisions. He was discharged as a Private First Class on January 26, 1920.

Mummert was a lifelong resident of Palatine, and worked at Creamery Package Company in Arlington Heights for 24 years, and  was a member of the Arlington Heights VFW Post.

Private First Class Walter Mummert died October 17, 1965 in his Palatine home, and is buried in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
