SFC Arthur H. Lageschulte

Arthur Henry Lageschulte was born July 6, 1892 in Barrington, to Henry J. and Sophia Gellerman Lageschulte.
Lageschulte served in World War from August 1, 1917 to his honorable discharge as a Sergeant First Class on June 27, 1919, in the Billeting and Supply Detachment of the 462nd Aero Squadron. There were numerous squadrons in the Air Service of the United States Army that performed duties of training, ground support, and construction. The 462nd was a construction squadron, serving in France to build barracks, shops, and hangars at the Third Aviation Instruction Center. Located in Issoudun, the Center was the largest airbase in the world at that time, built to train United States airmen prior to their deployment for aerial combat on the Western Front.
After the war, Lageschulte joined his family’s firm of Lageschulte and Hager, a lumber and coal dealer. He worked there until 1926, then moved to Lake Zurich in 1933, where he managed a farm and lived out his life.
On June 30, 1926, Lageschulte married Ruth Saunders in Barrington, and after her death in 1943, he married Norma Greely Stewart. There were no children born of either marriage.
Sergeant First Class Arthur Lageschulte died December 15, 1959 in Libertyville. He is buried in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery with his first wife.
