Thomas Dennis Duffy was born in Grafton, North Dakota, on September 25, 1927, to Thomas and Evelyn Kelly Duffy.
Duffy grew up on a farm St. Thomas, North Dakota, and attended a one-room school near his family’s farm. After graduating from St. Thomas High School, he served in the U.S. Army for 18 months from 1946 to 1947, honorably discharged as a Private First Class.
He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1950, where he was elected President of the Newman Club Federation, a national organization of campus ministry clubs from Roman Catholic universities.
Duffy married Beatrice Rose McCann on July 18, 1953, in Minneapolis; they raised eight children.
PFC Dennis Duffy of Barrington Hills, Illinois, died Friday, September 2, 2016, surrounded by his family. He rests in Evergreen Cemetery.
