PFC Harold B. Cornmesser

Harold Blair Cornmesser was born in Bellwood, Pennsylvania on January 14, 1895 to Blair W. and Bertha Glunt Cornmesser.
Cornmesser was still living in Pennsylvania when he enlisted for U.S. Army service on April 3, 1918. He served in Company A, 315th Machine Gun Battalion, where he participated in battles at St. Mihiel and Meuse Argonne. He earned a Purple Heart, and was honorably discharged on June 12, 1919 as a Private First Class.
On April 7, 1920, Cornmesser married Ida T. Johns in Milwaukee, and they made their home in Chicago. After his first wife died in 1939, he married Vivian Blakesley Baker in Chicago on January 14, 1942, and they moved to Barrington.
Professionally, Cornmesser worked for the railroad in many positions for more than 20 years.
Cornmesser was a member of the American Legion, the Order of Railway Conductors and Brakemen, and the Lounsbury Masonic Lodge.
Private First Class Harold Cornmesser died at his Barrington home on February 28, 1958, and is buried with his wife in Evergreen Cemetery.
