Christopher Neal Excell was born on September 11, 1953, in Barrington, son of Richard and Shirley Galloway Excell.
He graduated from Barrington High School, then joined the Air Force during the Vietnam War. After traveling and living internationally, he was based in Tucson, Arizona, where he retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant and worked at the Department of Defense until his passing.
Excell and his first wife had one son before her 1986 death. He married again on January 16, 2016 in Tucson, Arizona to Linda Van Steen.
Excell’s contributions to our nation were both military and civilian: for years he led aircraft maintenance operations at the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group. He served as a section supervisor in both the QF-4 and QF-16 programs, leading teams in re- generating aircraft in support of the full-scale aerial target program. He was skilled at building camaraderie and ensuring all the members of his team felt valued - tying them all to the critical defense department objectives they worked to support.
He was an avid cyclist and hiker, enjoyed driving his classic Porsche, and was a loyal Cubs fan who loved Van Morrison and Bob Dylan.
MSGT Christopher Excell passed away Sunday August 24, 2019 at his home in Tucson, and is buried in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
