Jack Louis Rieke was born in Barrington, Illinois, on March 22, 1929, to Sandfort and Minnie Kirchman Rieke.

Rieke grew up in Barrington, and graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Management, then returned to Barrington to work for Jewel Tea Company.

On January 31, 1951, he married his Barrington High School sweetheart, Jacquelyn A. Prickett; they raised three children.

Reike served in the Naval Reserve for four years, and two years of active duty during the Korean War.  

After his tour of duty, he returned to Jewel, where he worked in a variety of departments with increasing responsibility. When Rieke retired after 34 years with Jewel, he was Manager of the Corporate Headquarters and Vice President of the Jewel Foundation.

In retirement, Rieke and his wife traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe, visiting all 50 states. After 12 years of shuttling between homes in Florida and Wisconsin, they settled full time in Florida.

Throughout his life, Rieke was active in many charitable, civic, political, and property management organizations, both in Barrington and in Florida. He enjoyed golf, reading, politics, social activities, woodworking, and painting.

Jack L. Rieke passed away November 20, 2020 in Sarasota, Florida. He is buried in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
