Gayle Eugene Hayes was born in Muncie, Indiana, on September 10, 1932, to Robert L. and Vera Gordon Hayes.

Hayes served in the U.S. Army from December, 1952 to December, 1954 and was stationed Germany for 18 months with the 2nd Armored Division.

He married Laverne Meyer on January 16, 1955, in Columbus, Indiana; they raised two children.

Hayes graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Business in 1957, and an MBA in in 1959. Before he retired in 1997, he and his family had lived in Indiana, Iowa, California, and Chicago, as he pursued a career in Labor Relations.

He enjoyed antique cars, solving crossword puzzles, and international travel. Throughout his career and retirement, he was involved in community and Lutheran charitable causes as a fundraiser and leader.

Private Gayle E. Hayes passed away on August 29, 2023. He is buried at Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
