CPT Neal J. Coltrin

Neal Jerome Coltrin was born September 21, 1893 in Chicago, to Dr. Charles W. and Lotta Castle Coltrin.

Coltrin enlisted for service in World War I with his brother Donald, on September 27, 1915, and was assigned to the U.S. Army 123rd Field Artillery. He attained the rank of Second Lieutenant before his honorable discharge on December 17, 1919. Coltrin continued to serve in the Army Reserves, where he was promoted to the rank of Captain in the 497th Field Artillery.

In 1928, Coltrin married Veronica Cuneo; they raised one son.

Before relocating to California in 1949, Coltrin owned Darien Milk Company and a large farm in Ela Township. He retired in 1949, and moved with his wife to California.

Captain Neal Coltrin died January 11, 1954, in Altadena, California. He is buried with family members in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
