Donald Castle Coltrin was born April 6, 1897 in Chicago, to Dr. Charles W. and Lotta Castle Coltrin.

He enlisted with his brother Neil on September 27, 1915 for service in World I, and was honorably discharged from 1612th Service Command Unit as a Sergeant on June 7, 1919.

Coltrin married Celia Jacobs in Chicago on June 19, 1920; they raised a daughter.

He remained active as a First Lieutenant in the 497th Field Artillery, U.S. Army Reserves. Coltrin reenlisted for active duty in World War II, at the age of 45, on November 9, 1942, where he served as a Major in Battery C,  123rd Field Artillery. He finally retired from U.S. Army Military Reserve service in 1957.

Professionally, Coltrin made his career in as a sales professional.

Major Donald C. Coltrin passed on July 13, 1972 in his Lombard home. He is buried with his family in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
