Winston Lavelle Duke was born November 8, 1941, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Herbert W. and Eva (Renteria) Duke.
He earned a B.S. in physics and M.S. in nuclear engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he was President of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He went on to earn an M.B.A. from Harvard University in 1970, and subsequently, a law degree from Illinois Institute of Technology.
Duke served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1965; professionally, he was a nuclear physicist and attorney who was employed with Commonwealth Edison for 24 years. He was named to Who’s Who in Frontier Science and Technology in 1984.
He married Beverly Conklin on June 21, 1970, in Westwood, New Jersey; they raised four children.
Captain Winston L. Duke died December 12, 2005, at his Barrington home, and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
