Gilbert Blodgett McIntosh was born on July 15, 1918, in Kenilworth, to Arthur T. and Genevieve (Allen) McIntosh.

McIntosh was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Northwestern University in 1940; he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater, and remained in the Navy until 1954, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

He married Katherine Ann Wenter on June 21, 1941, in Wilmette; they raised four children.

After his military service, McIntosh joined the firm founded by his father, which was the largest single family residential land development company in the Chicago area. He became Treasurer and Executive Vice President.  

He was President of the University Club for two years and a member of the Society of Colonial Wars.

Lt. Commander Gilbert McIntosh died December 8, 1983, at his home in Inverness, a suburb developed by his family’s company. He is buried with his wife and family in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
