PVT Myron E. Kelsey

Myron Edward Kelsey was born August 22, 1898, in Cuba Township to Frank and Mary Pederson Kelsey.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 9, 1918, and served in Rifle Detachment 1 of the Air Service Aero Balloon Squadron. The mission of these balloons was to regulate artillery fire, locate targets, report all activity seen within the enemy lines by day, and to report all that could be seen at night. He was discharged on December 17, 1919.

Kelsey married Mae Benhart in November, 1923; they had two children.

He was a career U.S. Postal Service employee in the Ravenswood Post Office.

Private Myron Kelsey died June 29, 1940, in Chicago; he is buried with his wife and children in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
