Fred W. Hartner, Jr. was born on April 30, 1927 in Ingram, Pennsylvania to Fred and Matilda Bittner Hartner.

After graduating from Oliver High School in Pittsburgh, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on June 25, 1945, mustering out as a Corporal.

On December 22, 1951, he married Lois Evelyn Windhager in Knoxville, Tennessee; they raised two children.

Hartner had a long career as an electrician in the Pittsburgh area, and moved to Barrington near his son after he retired.

Corporal Fred W. Hartner, Jr. died on October 29, 2020, and is buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington.
