Arthur William English was born March 31, 1920, in Missouri, to Harold E. and Wilhelmina “Minnie” Millink English.

He grew up in Barrington.

English enlisted in the U.S. Navy on December 16, 1941, where he served as a Shipfitter First Class during World War II. Shipfitters fabricated, assembled and erected all structural parts of a ship, and coordinated all fixed tank work performed on submarines and ships. Shipfitters also used heavy machinery, and were responsible for hydro and air testing of tanks and compartments.

After his honorable discharge on October 26, 1945, English made his career as a pipefitter and was a member of Pipefitters Local 597 in Chicago.

He married Charlotte Ruth Heiden about 1947; they raised five children.

SF1 Arthur W. English died January 15, 1978 in Elgin; he is buried with family members at Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
