USAR

Michael Kean Bateman was born in Barrington Hills in 1939 to Lawrence F. and Charlotte Hughes Bateman.

He was a three-sport athlete and captained his football and baseball teams at St. Andrews School in Middletown, Delaware. He graduated from Brown University in 1961, before joining the US Army.

Once his military service was complete, Bateman was hired by Honeywell in the emerging technology industry as a salesperson. After leaving Honeywell, he founded International Data Sciences, and was the company's Chairman and CEO for six years before selling the business to Arthur Anderson. It was at this point he joined Tandem Computers, serving as VP and General Manager of the US Central Division as well as several other executive positions. After twenty years at Tandem, he moved to the next phase of his career, consulting with founders of startup tech companies, helping them secure venture capital and enabling them to get their businesses up and running.

As he was building his career, he was also building a family with Christine Krumpoch; they raised four children together.

Bateman was seen as an excellent business mentor who gave generously of his time and guidance. Later in life he acquired a passion for golf and was known at his club for being the "old guy" who walked 18 holes multiple times a week.

On December 10, 2022, Michael Kean Bateman Sr. passed away, surrounded by his family in his Bloomfield Hills, Michigan home. He is buried in his hometown, at Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
