Michael K. Bateman Sr.

Michael Kean Bateman was born in Barrington Hills in 1939 to Lawrence F. and Charlotte Hughes Bateman.
He was a three-sport athlete at St. Andrews School in Middletown, Delaware. He graduated from Brown University in 1961, before joining the U.S. Army, where he served in eastern Africa.
Once his military service was complete, Bateman was hired by Honeywell in the emerging technology industry as a salesperson. After leaving Honeywell, he founded International Data Sciences, and was the company's Chairman and CEO for six years before selling the business to Arthur Anderson. He joined Tandem Computers, serving as VP and General Manager of the U.S. Central Division. After twenty years at Tandem in executive positions, Bateman became a consultant to founders of startup tech companies.
Bateman married Susan Lee Stutenroth on December 2, 1967; they had two children and eventually divorced. His second wife was Christine Krumpoch; they raised two children.
In retirement, he acquired a passion for golf.
On December 10, 2022, Michael Kean Bateman Sr. passed away in his Bloomfield Hills, Michigan home. He is buried in his hometown, at Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
