Gerald Francis Barry was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on May 31, 1931, to Raymond and Cecile Alexander Barry.
Barry earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in chemistry from Lowell Tech (now known as the University of Massachusetts at Lowell). He then served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War. In 1959, he earned an MBA from Boston University.
During his career he worked for a number of companies including Celanese, Dupont, Brunswick and Philips Petroleum.
Barry married Catherine Contino in 1961 ; they raised three children in Barrington.
He was an active member of St. Anne Catholic Community, Northern Illinois Civil War Round Table, Barrington Library, YMCA and Good Shepherd Hospital. In 2011, he was inducted into the Senior Citizen Hall of Fame for the Barrington Area Council of Aging and was awarded the State of Illinois House of Representatives Recognition of Service to the Barrington Area Library.
Gerald Barry passed away peacefully on April 29, 2023, with his loving family by his side; he is buried at Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
