Robert August Ankele was born August 10, 1899, in to Ernst and Augusta (Braatz) Ankele.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 26, 1942, and was discharged March 29, 1943.

He married Adeline Staszak, and made his living as a baker.

PFC Robert Ankele died in Rockford on November 6, 1972; he is buried in Evergreen Cemetery with his parents.
