PVT Edward C. Yates

Edward Caleb Yates was born November 26, 1897, in Camden, Indiana, to James and Anna Grace Yates.

His mother died before he was two years old, and he was raised by his grandmother in Chicago.

Private Yates served in Company F, 131st Infantry Regiment, from the date it was mustered into Federal Service on April 4, 1917 until his honorable discharge in April, 1919.

In early 1922, he spent 3 months in a Veteran’s Home in Tennessee for chronic pulmonary disease treatment; he never fully recovered from this disease which overcame him 15 years later.

On April 22, 1922, he married Josephine Brandt in Barrington; they had one son.

Professionally, Yates worked for the Chicago & Northwestern Railway between 1924 and 1932, as a clerk, agent, and telegraph operator.

Private Edward Yates died in the Hines Veterans Hospital on August 8, 1937; he is buried with his wife and son in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
